musical director
The YVS are delighted to welcome back Belinda Gillam as Director of Music in 2012. Belinda was our Director from 1996 to 2007 and says that she is very happy to be invited back!
Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts (with a music major), Diploma of Education and Diploma of Community Development.
Belinda was the Founding Musical Director of Yarra Ranges Children's Choir and the Aboriginal Children's Choir
She sings with several prestigious choirs, including the Melbourne Chamber Choir and Chorelation.
Belinda is highly thought of as a conductor. She was a semi-finalist in the Australasian Choral Conducting Competition in 1999, guest conductor of the Victorian Secondary Student Honour Choir in the 2005 season and directed the 300 voice Knox Commonwealth Choir in 2006.
Our Assistant Director of Music and accompanist is Edwin Chow. Ed also plays the bassoon and is a member of Concordis, one of Australia’s finest choral ensembles.
He began learning the piano at the age of 4, and was involved in various choirs throughout his primary and high school years. At high school he picked up bassoon as his second instrument, but decided to study it over the piano at university, since he thought it would require less hours of practice. He is about to begin his Masters of Music (Performance Teaching) studies at Melbourne University, whilst teaching bassoon at various high schools and, of course, accompanying the Yarra Valley Singers.
